In a low-scoring contest on Sunday, the Denver Broncos clinched a close win over the winless New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix threw an early touchdown pass and kicker Wil Lutz kicked the game-winning go-ahead field goal to secure the ugly win.
Despite recording nine sacks versus Jets QB Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 following giving up a safety in the second half. Interestingly, the Jets managed just 82 total net yards throughout the entire game.
Nix, who went 19 of 30 passes for 174 yards, led a critical 12-play, 65-yard drive that ended with Lutz's 27-yard field goal with approximately five minutes left.
Despite their dismal performance, the Jets still had possession with a chance to score a potential winning score. However Fields was tackled on fourth down from the Denver 44 when coach Aaron Glenn opted to attempt the conversion rather than sending out kicker Nick Folk for a difficult kick.
The Jets quarterback struggled all game, connecting on just 9 of 17 attempts for 45 yards. New York ended up with negative ten passing yards, the lowest in any game since 1998.
"The aerial attack was completely absent," the coach stated following the game.
Rico Dowdle exceeded 200 total yards for the consecutive week and first-year Ryan Fitzgerald kicked a 33-yard field goal as time expired to give the Carolina Panthers a 30-27 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.
The Los Angeles Rams ended the first half with a defensive stop and then quarterback Matthew Stafford guided them to a pair of touchdowns to begin the second half in their 17-3 win over the Baltimore Ravens.
Daniel Jones passed for two touchdown passes and the running back scored the decisive touchdown with 4:32 remaining, securing the Indianapolis Colts a close victory over the Arizona Cardinals.
The quarterback threw scoring throws to his receiver and Cooper Kupp, and Seattle controlled the trenches on their way to a 20-12 win.
Aaron Rodgers threw for 235 yards and two scores, and the Pittsburgh Steelers experienced minimal difficulty in their 23-9 victory over the Cleveland Browns.
The quarterback escaped the pass rush and connected with Ladd McConkey for a long reception in the closing seconds, setting up Cameron Dicker's game-winning kick to give the Los Angeles Chargers a narrow win.
The quarterback threw for 261 yards and three scores as the visiting New England Patriots defeated the New Orleans Saints by six points.
